Education is very important in Lee County. Enclosed is information about the county’s public, private and higher education schools.
Public School Registration
By Alabama law, children must be 5 years old on or before September 1 to enter kindergarten and 6 years old on or before September 1 to enter the first grade. Documents required to register include:
- A certified birth certificate
- Immunization records on state forms
- Vision, hearing, and dental screening records from a family doctor or local health clinic
- A social security card
- Proof of residency in the school attendance zone.

Founded in 1922, Southern Union is a two-year college with campuses in Opelika, Wadley and Valley.
